Little is known about how the stress management education provided in the schools affects teacher or student outcomes. However, evidence indicates that change is possible even in programs of relatively short duration. For example, in a 10-week health promotion program for employees in the Dallas Independent School District, with a focus on exercise and physical fitness, the following impressive improvements were found: 44% of teachers changed their overall lifestyle, 68% changed their diet, 26% who had not exercised began vigorous programs, and 18% quit smoking.
